Asking the Right Questions to Get the Best Price from NJ Car Dealers
Many people think that when they are buying a new car, there are only a few questions to ask. However, if you want to get the best deal possible from your local NJ car dealer, there are things that should be learned before shaking hands and going in to fill out paperwork.
Once the price of
the car is negotiated, consumers need to ask what the out-of-the-door price is.
In other words, what fees are going to be tacked on to the price of the car,
and what is it actually going to cost to leave with it? Sometimes, the fees can
be so exorbitant that what seemed like a good deal really isn't.
As a part of this
process, also make sure to find out what the documentation fee will be. This is
a fee that every dealership charges to draft and sign the contract. Some may
have a relatively low doc fee, but some NJ car dealers may have high doc
fees reaching upward of $600.
It is also important
to learn what aftermarket items, or dealer add-ons, have been installed on the
car. These add-ons can hike the price of the car up quite a bit. If the vehicle
has features that are not wanted or needed, buyers should ask to see a similar
vehicle without the extras.
It's wise to learn
the vehicle's mileage as well. Most people assume that a new car will have only
a few miles on it. However, if the car has been driven between different car
dealers or has been on a number of test drives, the miles could total a few
hundred. If this is the case, the buyer should negotiate a lower price.
Finally, if, after
all of this, the deal does not seem so sweet, buyers should ask to see another
car. If they are told that the car can be had without extras or for a cheaper
price, buyers should ask if the car is actually on the lot. If it isn't, the
deal can change abruptly.
